In Latin America chronic diseases including diabetes hypertension and asthma are the highest cause of death and are increasing every year. In Chile 9.4% of the adult population has diabetes and they consume 25% of all ambulatory care resources. Only on dialysis around $70 billion Chilean pesos were spent in 2010 a cost completely unnecessary if these patients had controlled their disease. To help these patients and their health care providers weve developed MiDoctor. This system interacts with the patient through automated phone calls and text messages (SMS) and then provides all of that information to their provider through a web-based electronic medical record (EMR) and email alerts. Where currently only 8% of patients in Chile are monitored appropriately MiDoctor automates this process and can 1. ensure patients have the required visits2. confirm their attendance or alert the health center if they cant make it3. help in taking their mediations and changing their lifestyle4. alert their health care providers of any risk factor or not taking their medicationsThis system reduces no shows up to 70% and increases patient satisfaction. In the long term up to 125% more patients can be under appropriate control decreasing dialysis surgeries and amputations.MiDoctor is a service that health centers acquire through a monthly fee per patient in the system. This covers all of the services needed all the health center needs is a computer with internet to access MiDoctor.
