The team will develop a wireless-powered light-emitting device for photosynthetic microorganisms production in aqueous medium. The production of submerged high-density microorganism cultures has several potential market applications including pigments antioxidants fatty acids dietary supplements animal nutrition and biofuel production among others. The use of the device will allow the production of microorganisms at regular-depth bioreactors scalable with conventional production techniques instead of shallow depth systems that require external light sources and presents pollution problems a poor temperature control and a significant evaporation with a high requirement of fresh water. Other potential applications include: -Liquid residues treatment improving activated sludge treatment systems. -Photodegradation of hydrocarbon pollutants in aqueous-phase. -Fish production optimization through improved photoperiod management.
