Over the next 39 years cities worldwide will have to accommodate an additional 1.6B people. As density increases cities are forced to become efficient with given resources and turn to local communities for answers to local issues. Studies and experience show public participation in planning for transit infrastructure and land development projects saves money for city agencies. As a result cities are looking for ways to involve greater numbers of the community in the public process. The problem is extra man-hours facilities and surveys require increased funding for each project. Additionally town hall meetings and paper surveys typically attract a limited demographic and as a result leave a majority of the community underrepresented. Localisto modernizes the public process. Localisto is a smartphone and web application that leverages technology to produce more effective town hall meetings. The app will allow a significantly greater amount of community members to contribute feedback to town hall meetings by connecting remotely. Our service will aggregate feedback from community members and generate reports to subscribing government agencies. In turn government agencies will efficiently direct public investment thus saving time and public money. Localisto creates a digital platform for direct communication between the community and its decision makers. Annually the U.S. federal government awards $1.5B in grants for cities to sponsor events to enhance community participation in public planning. This is in addition to annual budgets. Our strategy is to target this money. Of the $8.5M spent recently on a community participation project in Seattle over $3.5M was on man-hours. By leveraging technology Localisto will provide greater outreach at less cost to the client. Revenue will be generated through contracts with government agencies that subscribe to our service. Localisto enhances and monetizes communication between community members and local government.
